Writing of light
Edouard Branly Technical High School, Chatelleraut, France
Past, face to face, and beyond
"In 2009, I was invited to collaborate with Edouard Branly Technical High School in Châtellerault as part of a project initiated by the French Ministry of Culture, focused on the art of light. The initiative, led by two visionary teachers, was an incredible opportunity that extended beyond the initially planned ten weeks and continued until 2011. During this time, I had the chance to engage with students and explore the transformative potential of light in art and education.

Edouard's Image Box (Maquette) The Image Box is a 2.5-meter cube with two open sides, creating an entry and exit for viewers to traverse its space. Inside, projections of photos and videos—created by Miki Nitadori and the students—offer a journey into a "future past," where present-day issues are preserved through visual memories.

Miki Nitadori, the arts of self-applied to all
Significant events arrive like cats with velvet steps. She discreetly came to our vocational high school in Châtellerault, located in a once vibrant city, and quickly seduced us. So cool! Welcomed by the applied arts teacher and supervised by Romain, the cultural coordinator, she was able to express herself freely. Vitality, bright eyes, a beautiful accent, and warm contact. Foreign, Parisian, Japanese, and American, she opened our public space with her soft familiarity and quietly, taking her time, began her experience. She led her "combat" in high school, sharing it, extending it, and nourishing it. To create, to give gestures to see, and to articulate views.
To make the class live in the rhythm of waiting and creation. Every weekend, Paris would take her back from us. She came back to us with developments of films and new perspectives. She came to talk to us about photos, writing, light, resistance, and small everyday gestures that save lives. Let's begin ! Making! Artwork, class photography, personal journals, and portraits, the world is made of these. But who makes my portrait? Who freezes me in the intimate space of others? To learn how to tell oneself in the most common of ways, a class photo or a photo for my blog. Miki takes the group to the heart of the intimate and the collective, a strange struggle led by the students because talking about oneself in front of a camera is complex; one exposes oneself, one must cross a plastic film, the one that freezes the other in public. My first blog is private or public? The modern world needs Miki.
