Workshops & Conferences
“Really?” Yes, I really enjoy doing workshops & conferences.
I enjoy meeting diverse people of different age, being in touch with their creativity and assisting them in understanding and developing the uniqueness of their own creative process through introducing my prospective. For younger students, I explain that the current framework is not the only way to work, as there are countless possibilities. In my workshop, I introduce them to various artists who are coherent to the workshop theme. I enjoy talking with adult participants about their work, and how they could refine it. My first teaching residency was in 2000 in Witten Herdecke University, Germany. I made a low budget film with other artists.
Also in 2000, I began teaching black and white photographic printing to international students. I helped them understand black and white printing from the basics to experimentation with accidental techniques, dyes & bleaching.
In 2005, I organized a five week summer workshop for Japanese students at Spéos Photographic Institute. This dealt with analogue photography, both color and black and white, learning about materials (film and paper) and diverse equipment.
I began working with high school students in 2008, relating this to my work series “Combat: Manual for daily survival”. I continue to give photography workshops in high schools, on portraiture, narrative and sequential series. I also deliver a semi-professional photography workshop to adults, assisting in the development of their projects and exhibitions.
Concerning conferences - I love to participate in debate, speak about my work and engage in dialogue with the public. I especially like to do this in French (although I love to in English as well), because people initially have the impression I do not speak French well (I have an English accent when I speak). I usually challenge their idea of me and raise questions and ideas which are inclusive, essential and caring.
The possibilities are infinite! So, if you are interested in collaboration, please contact me!
