Musée Cernuschi, Paris, France
When the Tohoku disaster struck Japan, I cried for two days and began raising funds to help. It mattered to me because my friends were worried, my parents lived in Japan, and my connection to past generations was there. A government worker criticized my efforts as ambitious and self-serving, yet I donated everything I collected. My first donation went to the NPO Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR Japan), and then I focused on supporting children, particularly in art, by donating to the Sendai-based NPO SOAT. In June 2012, I was asked to organize events for Emi Ichinoseki. I reached out to my network, and many people offered support. I organized a program for Emi, which included performances and workshops in Paris schools. With the help of Christine Shimizu at Musée Cernuschi, Emi performed live alongside Fumie Hihara in a space with a giant Buddha. This led to Emi Ichinoseki’s work being added to the Musée Cernuschi's collection.

"Watashitachi-Nous" begins with a meeting between Anne Figoni, French, living in Tokyo and Miki Nitadori, Japanese, living in Paris. An exchange, a meeting, a sharing of experience, images that shake us up and ask us about "Us", our relationship to the Other... Oh! You and me? Really?
Touched by the tragedy that struck Japan on March 11th, we are organizing a photographic exhibition/sale and meetings from June 17th to 26th 2011 in Paris. Opening: Friday, June 17th from 6pm All profits will be donated to the NPO arts organization which supports artists and arts associations in the Northeast of Japan. Csaba Morocz photography, 5 rue de la Grange-batelière 75009 Paris |
Our goals are to:
- Celebrate our connection through photography and live performances.
- Encourage rebuilding through discussions and roundtable meetings.
- Foster cultural exchange via arts activities (buto dance, haiku writing, Japanese tales, and origami for children).
- Raise funds through the sale of artworks and donations.
This event was made possible thanks to art dealers Csaba Morocz and Bernard Dudoignon, as well as the artists, speakers, and participants. We also thank the Paris 9th district city hall for their support.
