Odyssey : reflect artist book 2014-2018
Art work in book format : Odyssey : reflect book is contained in a box polished with Danish oil and lined with washi paper. The book is Japanese bound. I designed the textile cover based upon Kirigami (cut out) experiments. The paper is heavier and whiter to give a more advantage to the b&w photographs.The inner cover was printed with risography. Andrew Matthews composed ‘air’ and ‘water’ based upon interview recordings with people on Maui which is on a wooden usb key.
I wish for the audience to listen to these sounds while looking at the book, as they are the essence of my work.
Inside the box there is also an envelope in homage to Kodak’s envelopes from 1950’s. In the envelope there are surprises.
Last but not least, I sewed the bags to put the box in. I used my experimental silk screen prints and combined it with printed textiles that represents the “environments” of the immigrants’ countries of origins & place of residence, psychological and cultural space. The next step of this project will be working on publishing a book in collaboration with researchers, interview transcripts and more documents.
