Pier de Catherine ( Catherine's pier) 2017
Pier de Catherine ( Catherine's pier) is a series of images that was created on demand from the writer Isabelle Blondie. This piece consists of 110 images for theatrical monologue written by Isabelle on one of my oldest friends in Paris, Catherine. Isabelle is reincarnated in Catherine, who has undergone a life changing operation, ampulation and embarks alone on a sailboat, in the Mediterranean sea. She faces pain, danger, fear and mourning. Her journey / monologue is interlinked to two tragedies: Catherine's condition and the terrorist attack of Nice (of which Isabelle is a native). In this work I wanted to challenge the audience, alluding to media manipulations. This is about general sub conscious public opinion of who refugees are and how they are often linked to terrorism. I have chosen to represent the refugees that Embarks on the boat of Catherine / Isabelle with photographs of Japanese-American children ( 1st graders) in public school in San Francisco 1942 ( photograph attributed to Dorothea Lange via wiki commons) After Pearl Harbor who suddenly were considered as Alien-enemies.
I used also images of European immigrants to America. What I tried to say in this work is that many of us are all decedent of immigrants and refugees in historical context. And history is way more interlinked than what we know and our knowledge can often lack of many information. This series were created by my photographs , friends photographs, and from digital archives on Creative commons images.
