Odyssey : reflect
Landskrona konsthall, sweden
Where to Land the Eye : Curated by Christine Eyene, Landskrona Foto Festival, Sweden
This installation evolves with changing daylight, shifting through different states as the sun moves. Created with Martin Bofeldt, it features a Japanese-inspired garden with water, mirrors, bamboo, and wood chips, fostering cross-cultural dialogue. The installation reflects its surroundings, subtly echoing a nearby fort’s waterline. Sound pieces by Andrew Matthews and a tea offering, Kahalawai (House of waters), blended by Artéfact in Paris, enhanced the sensory experience.

Focus curated by Jonathan Yukio Clark
In 2013, I first exhibited Odyssey: Reflect at the Schaefer International Gallery in Maui. In 2024, I returned with Photography? End?, creating a site-specific installation. I used windows as lightboxes, allowing a 1956 Lahaina Honganji photograph to shift with daylight. The installation featured a photograph of Lanai Island, aligned with the eye level of people in the panoramic group photo.
In the center, an oval table with a palaka tablecloth displayed pieces from my A-lien Pacific series, surrounded by red volcanic cinder to symbolize Maui's earth. Sounds of "Air" and "Water" filled the space. On August 1st, dancers performed, and guests shared tea, Kahalawai (House of Water). I dressed as if stepping out of the photograph, creating a dialogue between past and present, with the youngest people from the group photograph attending, adding deeper meaning to the work.
